The PDO suture is indicated for use in soft tissue approximation and/or ligation but not use in cardiovascular tissue and neurological tissue. It meets all the requirements of United States Pharmacopoeia(USP) and European Pharmacopoeia(EP) for absorbable surgical sutures.

Advantages

PDO sutures have a high initial tensile strength. 75% of the original tensile strength is retained up to two weeks after surgery, 60% of the original tensile strength is retained at the end of four weeks post implantation. Absorption of PDO suture is minimal up tp 10% in two weeks, and aborption is essentially complete between 180 and 210 days.
A slight tissue inflammation may occur when PDO sutures are placed in tissue, which is characteristic of foreign body response followed by gradual encapsulation by connective tissue.
